Weird "A" symbol on published page-CS3

Hello,

I am new to CS3 and can't figure out why I am getting strange "A" with a vertical > on top.  I do not see this symbol on the Edit page, just when I publish it.  It seems to be marking where there are spaces (Enter/Return and just a space between sentences).  The text I am working with was copied and pasted from a Word document.  How do I get rid of these strange symbols?

I am also trying to insert a pie chart from Excel into the page, but have not figured out how to do that.  Any suggestions?
